Brackett-Morrell Association Founders Day Afternoon Sermon At Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Blainesville, VA By: Pastor Walter A. Jackson, III. Pastor Jackson was once the pastor of this church from August 1970 until August 1973. Founders Day is when the churches in Area 7 of the American Baptist Churches of the South (ABCOTS) get together to celebrate their founding by two northern Baptist Missionaries after the Civil War (Nathan Brackett and H. Morrell ) along with a school teacher named Anna Dudley who started school. The churches were started as places for the freed slaves to worship of their own accord.
